Building the Future for Students, Faculty, and Communities 

The University of New Mexico–Gallup Campus was founded in 1968. Due to the unique quality and complex diversity of the various communities that we serve, our educational priorities are multifold. We offer associate degrees that transfer seamlessly to four-year institutions, numerous certificate and associate degrees in Career and Technical Education and the Health Sciences, associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing, and a multitude of professional certification programs that prepare students to enter the workforce directly. Additionally, we have developed partnerships with local and regional school districts to support three early high school programs: McKinley Academy, Middle College High School, and the Center for Career and Technical Education, which is a UNM entity housed on our campus.

One of our major strengths is our focus on students’ needs. Accelerate New Mexico provides us with an opportunity to raise funds to augment and improve student learning, accessibility, well-being, and educational resources.

Overview:

Serving an excitingly diverse student body that is nearly 70% Native American, UNM-Gallup is inclusive and welcoming to all who want to pursue an education or professional certification. We are committed to preparing our students to achieve their educational and professional goals in a manner that respects their cultures, traditions, and values.

List of Priorities:

  • UNM-Gallup was awarded the designation of a Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution (NASNTI) in 2023. We serve the largest population of any NASNTI-designated institution in the United States.

    Federal funds originally connected to this designation were eliminated in 2025. Regardless of these changes, UNM-Gallup remains committed to the well-being of all our students, including those who are traditionally marginalized and underserved. The Native American Student Success Center (NASSC) will carry on the ethos of the NASNTI designation and provide resources and support to students in the areas of:

    • Food Insecurity

    • Housing Insecurity

    • Healthy Living

    • Mental Health

    • Emergency Funds

    • Cultural Celebrations and Awareness

    • Academic Support

    • Career Services

    $2 million of philanthropic funding will continue a Native American Student Success Center to help ensure that all students have the access to resources and support to achieve their educational aspirations.
