Campaign Co-Chairs

Larry and Dorothy Rainosek

“Donating to Accelerate New Mexico's campaign will help keep good students in New Mexico, keep bringing outstanding professors to the university and continue the valuable research that is being conducted. That's the way we move UNM forward.” – Larry and Dorothy Rainosek

Larry and Dorothy Rainosek are Albuquerque entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and longtime champions of The University of New Mexico, whose impact is evident across the University and the community they have called home for more than five decades.

After relocating from Austin, Texas, to Albuquerque, Larry and Dorothy opened the Frontier Restaurant in 1971. What began across from the UNM campus became one of Albuquerque’s most enduring institutions. The couple also founded Golden Pride, growing the business to four locations in Bernalillo County. Their relationship with UNM extends far beyond their businesses’ proximity to campus.

Over decades, the Rainoseks have supported programs spanning architecture and planning, athletics, the arts, scholarships, and other areas of the University. They established the Frontier/Golden Pride Endowment for Regional and Indigenous Design and Planning, reflecting their commitment to New Mexico and to educating future generations. Dorothy served for more than two decades on the UNM Foundation Board of Trustees and has also served on the boards of organizations supporting women’s athletics, the Albuquerque Museum, and the New Mexico Symphony. In 2009, Larry and Dorothy were recognized by the New Mexico Association of Fundraising Professionals as Outstanding Leaders in Philanthropy. UNM awarded both honorary degrees in 2013.

Larry and Dorothy bring to Accelerate New Mexico a distinctly New Mexican tradition: building something that lasts, investing in the community that helped make it possible, and creating opportunity for the people who come next. Their decades of generosity reflect an enduring belief in UNM, in New Mexico, and in the generations who will carry both forward.
